17-year-old Builds Himself a Home
For most of us, building a mini-home that we can take on the road is something we’ve thought about and then forgotten. For Austin Hay, however, that thought became reality with lots of hard work and determination.
Austin’s mini house, which is 1500 square feet, comes complete with a working shower, toilet, fridge, stove, oven and heater. Most of the parts he collected from junk yards and has assembled into a house that’s just big enough for himself. He also has a desk, bed, couch, bookshelf, closet and kitchen cabinets to store his belongings.
Overall, the cost of the house was $12,000, and Austin plans on parking it in a friend’s backyard or side yard during his college years.
