Properly maintaining your used forklift is vital in order to keep your machinery running as long as possible as well as ensuring safe operations. Find out three vital maintenance checks you should perform regularly to keep your forklifts running right.

Tips for Proper Maintenance of Your Used Forklift

Properly maintaining a used forklift is about more than keeping your equipment running; it’s about safety. A forklift that has not had the correct regular maintenance is more likely to break down, which can create a dangerous situation for workers. Here are a few steps that you should be regularly taking in order to keep your forklifts running and safe:

Regularly Monitor and Replace Fluid Levels

Much like with passenger vehicles, you need to make sure that you have sufficient oil in your forklift’s motor in order to keep parts lubricated. Changing your oil every three to six months will help with fuel economy along with protecting your parts. Along with engine oil, you should also check and replace hydraulic oil and radiator fluids.

Monitor Tire Pressure

Perform an air pressure check on your tires on a regular basis to make sure that they are properly inflated. Tires that are underinflated are often a sign that they need to be replaced before they go flat and create an unplanned halt to your activities. Underinflated tires can also cause loads to shift in an unexpected manner or making handling dangerous.

Take Advantage of Warranties

Many forklift sales include warranties that cover mechanical issues caused by normal wear and tear. Make sure you check to see if your forklift is under warranty and which services are covered. Depending on the terms of the warranty, you may be able to replace a defective or broken part for free.
