Reviewing Global Forklift Growth in Recent Years
According to recent global research reports, forklifts are now the most widely used tool for handling materials in the logistics sector. Global forklift sales increased by 7.5 percent in 2014, exceeding one million units sold for the first time in history. Sales for forklifts grew steadily in the United States during 2015, and they performed even better in emerging markets overseas like China.
Leading Forklift Brands
China currently has the largest forklift market in the world. Most forklifts are either considered to be powered by electricity, gas, diesel or internal combustion with propane. In China, internal combustion forklifts constitute 80 percent of the total market, but electrical models accounted for over 30 percent of the volume sold during 2014. As companies become more energy conscious, electric forklifts are gaining popularity in comparison to the older internal combustion models.
Major brand Forklifts
Some of the most popular major brand forklift models were manufactured during 2011, 2010 and the 2007. Many of the flagship models from these years have a 5,000-pound maximum capacity, while the mid-sized models max out at 3,000 lbs. A number of the 2011 models feature pneumatic tires, while, the other models are equipped with cushion tires. Most forklift uses a side shifter and runs on liquid petroleum gas.
Japanese Forklifts
The leading brand forklifts were manufactured in Japan during 2009 and 1999. Both Japanese forklifts feature cushion tires, a side shifter and a mast spanning 188 inches. These forklifts are powered by liquid petroleum gas and have a maximum capacity of 5,000 pounds.
Other Forklifts
A few of the other forklifts worth mentioning are manufactured by companies from different countries. Some of the 2005 models have a maximum capacity of 10,000 pounds and a mast spanning 189 inches. The smaller forklifts typically have a max capacity of 3,500 and a 189-inch mast. Generally speaking, each of these forklifts come equipped with cushion tires, lpg fuel and a side shifter.
